Girl requires surgery after saving boy from dog bites

A 10-year-old girl is in need of multiple surgeries after saving her 7-year-old friend from a vicious dog attack in Bridgeport. The two children were playing with a pit bull on Wednesday afternoon in a home, according to a police spokesperson, when the pit bull attacked the boy.

The police spokesperson said that when the dog attacked it bit the boy in the butt. Once the boy was able to get free from the pit bull he ran towards an open window on the first floor. He was planning to jump out of the window to get away from the dog.

As the boy ran to the window the girl grabbed the dog by the collar in an effort to restrain it from hurting the boy further. When the girl did this the dog trained its eyes on the girl, hurting her.

The girl suffered cuts to her stomach, head and most of her limbs. One of the girl's ears was punctured along with one of her hands. According to the police spokesperson, the girl had undergone plastic surgery for the injuries to her stomach, lip and hand. The girl's mother said her daughter will need more surgeries for the injuries suffered, all of which caused damage to her fatty tissue.

The injuries to the young boy were not serious. The dog belongs to the uncle of the girl and it is now in the custody of animal control.

Being bitten by an animal, especially a dog, is traumatizing for victims of any age. Children bitten by dogs can be scarred for life, both physically and emotionally. An experienced Providence animal bite attorney can explain the law and help you recover compensation for injuries suffered.
